Killers All Around us

We are surrounded by poisons and toxins. Is nature conspiring against us? The truth is most poisons and toxins are human caused. Poisons and toxins interfere with healthy body function. An everyday toxin is dust. In high enough concentrations, ordinary dust can cause irritation and even choking.

So how can we protect ourself from the harmful effects of environmental toxins? We have all experienced the effects of toxins when we get a rash. Most rashes are the result of skin responding to a toxic substance. Rashes can usually be avoided by avoiding contact with the offending substance.

But what about toxins that get under our skin? What about toxins in our food? Thankfully, our body has a system for getting rid of toxins. Toxins are excreted. But imbalances interfere with the bodies natural detoxification process. Here are a few things that can help our body get rid of toxins.

  1. Keep your digestive system working smoothly. Eat lots of fibre to keep things moving. Plugged plumbing spreads toxins in your digestive tract.
  2. Drink plenty of water. The water pathway removes many unwanted toxins. Don't leave your body short of liquid. Drinking water filtering with reverse osmosis may also help.
  3. Avoid toxic loading. Eat real food rather than packaged processed food. Buy organic if you can afford it. Avoid refined flour. Avoid toxic cleaners and air fresheners.
  4. Exercise. Exercise helps move nutrients into cells and wastes out. Intense exercise that causes sweating can also can help remove toxins. Exercise
  5. Sweat. A sauna or sweat lodge may help encourage sweating to help excrete toxin. Recent research is confirming what Native Americans knew centuries ago: sweat can help remove toxins such as heavy metals. Be sure to drink plenty of water. You would be surprised at how much water is lost when your whole body is sweating.

As always, exercise caution and get advice from your health care practitioner.
